It is what it is July 15, 2010 ~kev~ (Texas) For a tent that cost less then $25, its an outstanding product. But keep in mind, sometimes you get what you pay for. If you spend $25 on a tent, expect a low quality product.
If you can afford a more expensive tent - then go ahead and spend the money.
If this is all you can afford - do not expect a high quality product.
My Starlight tent was bought around 1994, 1995 or 1996; I do not remember the exact year. Since then it has gone on lots of hiking and camping trips.
Some of the things I like this tent - its light, its compact, its easy to setup, its easy to take down, it fits into an ALICE pack nicely, and the floor does not feel weak.
Some of the things I do not like - the rear tent pole will sometimes fall down, so the tent can collapse in the middle of the night, its not free standing, it does not provide a lot of rain protection, it can get hot in the summer time. I would carry 2 spare rain ponchos and put them over the tent at night, just in case it rained.
But hey, what do you "really" expect out of a $25 tent? It is what it is.
They sent me the wrong item and the one I got is a piece of ,,,, July 9, 2010 starmom I wanted the dome tent that is shown in the cover photo. Unbenounced to me, there is a totally different tent on another picture if you try to look at different pics of the first tent. Apparently, there is no way to get the tent that is shown in the main picture, because there is nowhere to chose which type you want. they just send you the crappy one, and there is no customer service line or way that I could tell to return it for the correct one. So I got stuck with something I do not want. Hopefully, everyone reads the reviews before they order because this happened to someone else also.
Inexpensive, very light. April 12, 2010 Michael Williams I purchased this for use backpacking. I wanted something cheep & light as I don't plan to use it much, and don't want to carry something heavy for long hikes. In short, it is cheep (paid $22 new) and light, but seems to be built well.
It is small. Not much room for more then me and my sleeping bag inside. Not sure how it will hold up to rain as I have not experienced any yet. It was easy and quick to set up and served it's purpose.
Budget Tent March 26, 2010 Tugg Speedman (Indianapolis, IN) Pros: Cheap, compact(17"x3") and lightweight.
Cons: Have to steak down for it to stand up. Which means you'll need a hammer of some sort if you wish not to use a rock.
Material is very thin and seems won't last long
22square feet of space inside makes for a tight 2man fit(very tight)
This would be good tent for brand new hiker/bikers. At only 22dollars, you can use it twice and get your moneys worth then just trash it if you decide hiking/biking isn't your cup of tea.
Great tent for the price! February 16, 2010 Ryan L. Burrill (Minnesota, USA) This tent is awesome for the price. I must recommend making a few alterations/additions. One is that I coating of waterproofing spray is a must as well as seam sealer. The low quality pegs should be switched out for some high quality aluminum ones. And if you do a lot of tenting you'll want to switch out the guy ropes that are included for something more durable, I've not bothered to do so because they've held up through everything I've put them through. Though I do a lot of camping I only use my tent when I'm certain of an upcoming downpour.
Otherwise this tent has been durable, comfortable and easy to use. It only sleeps one comfortably, two intimately. If you're wanting room to sit up and hang out you best be going with a dome tent. This tent is a no silly business tent made for getting in and laying down. With that said, I love my tent and have weathered many a storm with it.
Also for camouflage I spray painted the tent with the cheapest black spray paint I could find at walmart. It did not harm the tent or the waterproofing, I applied it before I put on the waterproofing spray though.
